Someone once said, “The poverty of being unwanted, unloved, and uncared for is the greatest poverty of all.” Since 2009, I have been a part of the visitation team that reaches out to solitary elders. It is evident how their spirits lift when they receive our company. What people need most is not material things; it is our presence, someone who truly cares for them and walks with them.
I remember visiting an elderly disabled man in Hong Kong who lived alone and was always by himself. He had no family nearby. Over nearly a decade, we developed a close friendship. We brought him food, but what he valued most was our company. We prayed and read the Bible together, and he loved sharing his stories with us. On our last visit, he tenderly called us his angels, feeling truly heard and cared for. That moment turned out to be the last time we saw him, as he passed away shortly after. The food was just a gesture; it was our ongoing friendship that truly mattered. By being there for him, we shared God’s love, salvation, and hope.
Manna Ministry’s outreach is about bringing Heaven to Earth through each one of us. We can all become Jesus’ hands and feet on Earth.
Message from Nigel Sze – Manna Ministry Head (2009 – 2022)
It was such a privilege for me, as a volunteer, to have started Manna Ministry on March of 2009. Manna is an outreach ministry that focus in serving the poor locally. We began with a relatively small base to now a strong and dedicated team of 150 volunteers covering over 20 activities. I am a banker for most of my life and God has planted in me a compassionate heart after I visited a lonely elderly living by herself in a housing estate. Our journey in bringing love, hope and transformation in the community is filled with testimonies and we have put these stories under “My Manna Story”. Have you ever thought of why we are at the giving end? You will find the answer when you serve in His name.

To me Manna is more than just providing food, or meeting the needs of the people. Through all that we do, I pray not only the ones we serve, but as laborers we’ll all experience the love and power of Jesus. The language of love and the power of Jesus break all barriers, whether it be class, race, culture or language. It is so encouraging to see volunteers in Manna come from all walks of life. For most, despite the cultural and language barriers, they choose to move away from their comfort zone to serve the poor. I invite you to join and be part of the local outreach ministry, where together we can make a difference in this city.
